Lightning protection
Recently, the issue of lightning protection of buildings and structures is becoming more and more relevant.
Probably this is due primarily to the increase of lightning discharges in moderate climatic zones. According to NASA statistics, about 300 bursts of lightning around the world occur every minute, which leads us to believe that lightning protection systems are useful and useful.
According to statistics of the Kiev region, lightning falls into a cottage area of 300 square meters. m times in 70-100 years. This is a fairly high probability, especially if you consider that the electronic home appliance is affected by lightning strikes within a radius of several hundred meters.
Now it is possible to meet a wide range of lightning protection systems manufacturers - Galmar (Poland), Erico (USA), Dehn (Germany), OBO Bettermann (Germany), '' Schirtec ' '(Austria),' Indelec '(France) and others.
Thanks to laboratory tests, as well as monitoring after lightning discharge on objects with lightning protection system, manufacturers every year improve the quality and expand the range of products. Therefore, these Brands are gaining popularity and trust in Ukraine.
The price of lightning protection depends directly on the chosen firm of the manufacturer, as well as the material components: copper, stainless steel, aluminum, galvanizing, steel.
It is an undeniable fact that using quality materials, thus ensuring the durability and reliability of the system.
Even with the Soviet Union, lightning protection was given great importance to Ukraine, in particular, the execution of ground loops on the towers of the Russian Communist Party. Proper design and use of durable materials for contours (stainless steel) provides long-lasting functionality.
Lightning protection consists of three main parts: a lightning-collector (active or classical), a conductor and an earthing switch. The lightning receiver takes a lightning strike, transmits its current lead, and the one - to the ground loop, which suppresses discharge in the soil.
The contour may be of different types.
The most commonly used are deep point earthing, ring deep earthing emitters, as well as their combinations. It is believed that when lightning enters the grounding system, half of the current "floods" into the building, the other half - goes to the outer layers of the soil.
Therefore, designers believe that ring earthing is better, since it gives a uniform distribution of lightning current along the entire perimeter. At the same time, the same potential is created between all the drives, which avoids problems with step-by-step voltage. In practice, ring earthing is a more labor-intensive, more expensive than point deep earthing loop.
When installing the classical lightning protection scheme, lightning mats are used, ropes are stretched over the roof, lightning collecting nets, current leads on the insulators laid on the roof skates. All these systems work reliably with proper design and high-quality installation.
Recently, the so-called active lightning protection system, which is widely used in Europe and around the world, is gaining popularity. Unlike the traditional lightning protection, an active lightning-collector is equipped with a system that, due to the voltage between the cloud and the earth, concentrates the charge. This energy is used to initiate the down streamer, which appears before using classical lightning protection protection (with lightning receivers in the form of Franklin's metal rods).
This creates a protection zone that is much larger than the use of metal rods.
Active lightning receivers have tangible benefits in cases where it is necessary to protect a large area, an open site, or a building with the preservation of architectural forms, cottages.
